I bought this boat and soon found that it has a starter issue. It's a 1990 250DA with a single 5.7 Mercruiser.
Someone has apparently replaced the original starter with an Arco aftermarket.
The problem is that sometimes it jumps and skips while attempting to turn the engine over. I pulled the starter off and noticed some minor starter gear damage and the ring gear still looks ok, but you can see where it is showing some signs of wear. So I bought a new starter and installed it. It worked fine for the first couple of times I started it, then back to the same issue. I noticed that the starter bracket was missing? And I did noticed some slight bent starter bolts.
So I have just ordered another starter and the starter brace. Does anyone have any advise? Is that starter brace that significant? Thanks!
